Journal 118 (WWW Edition)
Contrary to what I said in the last Journal, I have had to make the platform and steps for the signal box. Ray Ollier has had a lot of work to do on the coaches and very little help, so I thought I had better have a go myself. Making the platform turned out to be fairly easy. I mortised the posts to the same cross section as the cross members. Now the steps were another matter, getting the right angles for top, bottom and steps slats was real fun. I eventually got the sides right by packing up the platform on blocks. This allowed me to place the sides in position then mark the top and bottom. It was easier then trying to work out all the angles. Unfortunately my router broke down, so I had to use the circular saw to rent the step slats. Transporting the platform and steps to Port was much easier than the box, as can be seen from the photograph. The box is now finished and in full working order, complete with flower box. Thank God.
