Improving the Gelerts Farm Visitor Experience

Yet Again!

Journal 118 (WWW Edition)

As these notes are being written the traditional race is taking place to finish all the projects that have been going on over the winter. The start of the operating season is looking perilously close!

The levelling and surfacing of the extended visitor circulating area at the front of the big shed is nearly complete and we are confident (honestly!) that it will be ready for Easter. The display of wagons at the rear of the shed continues to grow. The 2ft 6ins gauge wagons from Cookes Explosives, Penrhyndeudraeth, now sit on their own piece of track. Information boards have been prepared and once they are put in place another item can be crossed off the list. One of the Manod Granite Quarry tub wagons that used to be displayed on the car park has been added to the collection. The opportunity has been taken to rebuild the dwarf slate walls that form the edges of the display areas. The plastic chain that used to separate the display area from the rest of the yard has been replaced by a wooden post and rail fence.

Additional material is being prepared for the Big Shed. Some of it may not be ready for Easter, but it is intended that, as the season progresses, extra exhibits, photographs and information boards will be introduced.
