This photo was taken from "Mr Huddarts Crossing", a footpath across the Cambrian Railway. Over a century ago, a three-foot gauge railway ran along the course that is now this footpath. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 58KiB (large file: 1024x768, 126KiB ) |

There are two platforms at Porthmadog station, although platform 2 (on the left) is short and currently not used by passengers, platform 1 (right) being the normal departure & arrival point. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 59KiB (large file: 1024x768, 125KiB ) |

The sign reads "Porthmadog. Change here for Machynlleth, Pwllheli." It is only a brief walk to the Cambrian station from which these destinations can be reached. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 82KiB (large file: 1024x768, 125KiB ) |

The view westwards towards the station building. Beyond lies the road and Cambrian level crossing. The Victorian building seen behind the water tower is the Queen's Hotel. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 63KiB (large file: 1024x768, 126KiB ) |

A view not normally seen by passengers, there is a footpath for staff to walk from the station to Gelert's Farm Works. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 65KiB (large file: 1024x768, 126KiB ) |

Looking west towards Porthmadog Station, this view is similar to what the driver sees on arriving at that station. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 81KiB (large file: 1024x768, 133KiB ) |
| Gelert's Farm | |
|
|
At Gelert's Farm Works, a small but well-equipped facility occupies the old farm buildings (behind the camera and on the left) and a variety of newer buildings too. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 42KiB (large file: 1024x768, 129KiB ) |

This view the other way includes the boiler of the NG15 loco. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 39KiB (large file: 1024x768, 120KiB ) |

Keeping company with the old farm buildings stands a collection of industrial wagons on various mineral railway sidings. These form a part of the museum. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 63KiB (large file: 1024x768, 125KiB ) |

The large grey shed is actually called the RED shed (Railway Extension Department) and is a general workshop and loco shed. On the left edge, the boiler of Gelert can be seen, sitting outside the main loco shed. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 39KiB (large file: 1024x768, 122KiB ) |

The boiler of Gelert is seen in front of the loco shed. In the middle is the snow-covered Civil Engineering shed, and behind the signal cabin is the so-called Big Shed, used for exhibiting museum pieces and for overnight stock storage. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 47KiB (large file: 1024x768, 126KiB ) |

At the northern tip of Gelert's Farm, the Farm Junction allows entry and exit from the Farm to the main line, which curves away to the left towards Pen-y-Mount. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 39KiB (large file: 1024x768, 127KiB ) |

The Farm Junction is seen here set against magnificent mountain scenery. The main summit is Cnicht, the Welsh Matterhorn (it is actually a long ridge but is seen end-on from Porthmadog). Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 52KiB (large file: 1024x768, 124KiB ) |
| Pen-y-Mount | |
|
|
At Pen-y-Mount, the station building is a nearly-exact replica of traditional 1920's WHR practice. The two-wire telephone and tensioned wire fence serve to enhance the authentic air. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 46KiB (large file: 1024x768, 127KiB ) |

The whole of the station is seen here. Penmount farm lies beyond. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 55KiB (large file: 1024x768, 124KiB ) |

A southward view from between the platform and loop roads. The current main line disappears off to Gelert's Farm in the far distance. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 60KiB (large file: 1024x768, 126KiB ) |

The view northwards from the platform. The old WHR trackbed runs off into the trees, mid-right. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 55KiB (large file: 1024x768, 126KiB ) |

A view southwards from the current headshunt. This will soon be the site of a new junction. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 63KiB (large file: 1024x768, 125KiB ) |

|
From the minor road, this is a view southwards to Pen-y-Mount Station. The original trackbed runs under the vegetation on the left whilst the existing (1980) railway is on the right, running parallel for a while then diverging away to the right, towards the northern end of Porthmadog. Soon there will be a level crossing under the photographer's feet. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 58KiB (large file: 1024x768, 125KiB ) |
|
|
A wistful view back over the gate and across the fields to Porthmadog town. This spot may soon be the junction between the WHR (Porthmadog) and the FR's railway. Andy Goodwin, Dec 2000 512x384, 63KiB (large file: 1024x768, 125KiB ) |
