Over the weekend of the 24th - 25th October 1998, the volunteers of the Welsh Highland Railway held their fifth annual gala known as Dirty Chappies V.

Palmerston passes through Gelert's Farm Halt, a single-line halt with no passing loop. During Dirty Chappies a brief stop is made by trains in both directions to set down or pick up visitors touring the sheds and workshops.
