Enthusiasts Weekend (1995)
Over the weekend of the 21st - 22nd October 1995 the volunteers of the Welsh Highland Railway held their second annual gala, known as Dirty Chappies II.
During the weekend, all 23 of the Railway's locomotives were on display with up to 15 of them operational.
A mixture of freight and passenger trains were run on the main line hauled by a variety of motive power. This included the first ever use of double headed LYd2s ever in Western Europe, and the double heading of Woto with the WHR's own Bagnall Gelert.
The pictures here provide a small insight into the fascinating variety of railway activities that took place during this enthralling weekend.

The LYd2s arrive at Pen-y-Mount with the passenger train. The contrast in styles between east and west European narrow gauge rolling stock can clearly be seen from the difference in size between the locos and the coach. Andy Carter | |
