The Traeth Mawr temporary loop site now has complete ballast along its entire length. The 'Welsh Matterhorn', Cnicht is directly ahead; to its right, the Croesor valley seems always to be in shadow. Although the Croesor Tramway headed up the Croesor Valley, the WHR branched off left and made for the pass that can clearly be seen on the left. More history & route description. Here is the full length of the Loop, with the newest ballast rather whiter - just wait until it rains! One of the new kissing gates is in the foreground; the fence on its left is temporary. Andy Goodwin 640x480, 159KiB (large file: 1280x960, 213KiB ) |

The junction point at Pen-y-Mount was covered with geotextile, then used for a couple of months as a place to store slate waste. Now that the formation work is complete, the point had to be cleaned up once more. Although the geotextile sheet had kept most of the slate waste off the point metalwork, some had to be removed by hand and this was quite a task! Here is the point exposed, the job almost complete. The point cleanup is nearly complete. Rails and other parts are now being obtained to build the level crossing, with the generous help of the WHLR Ltd construction company in Dinas. The foreground shadow, filled with bluish snow, lies across a small sleeper stack. Andy Goodwin 640x480, 164KiB (large file: 1280x960, 208KiB ) |

Anyone would think they sat down for ages. Beyond is Porthmadog football ground. Penrhyndeudraeth is further on, where the Ffestiniog Railway passes amongst the lightly-snow-covered hills and trees. Andy Goodwin 640x480, 193KiB (large file: 1280x960, 209KiB ) |
