Project Weekend 8/9 Nov 2003

The 'bypass' is an access road for the farmer at Farmyard Farm, being built alongside the Railway. The pegging out is largely complete and work has started at the (southern) far end.

Over the wall, the site of the Traeth Mawr temporary terminus has been surveyed and fenced.

The small mountain on the horizon is Moel-y-Gest, a mass that separates Porthmadog town from the beaches at Borth-y-Gest and beyond.

Whilst the 'bypass' is being built, another team makes progress with the Traeth Mawr run-round loop. Here, the topsoil is being scraped back, before the levelling fill is extended further.

The loop will be temporary, existing only until Phase 2 takes the line to Pont Croesor. Therefore, this region may have further earthwork once the loop has been lifted,

There's a lot of fencing work to do. The first stage is constructing the straining posts, as seen here. This fence will separate the Railway from the public footpath. Nick (right) has clearly found a task that suits him!
