The Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog) is a small, friendly railway where the train ride is just part of the experience. Our vintage train also stops at the sheds, where you can get off for a FREE guided, hands-on tour - climb on the engines and see how things work.

Our shop is famous throughout the country for its range of railway books. Videos, gifts, crafts and model railway equipment are also stocked. Buy your souvenir ticket here. Pay once and ride all day.

Sample the delights of homecooked meals and snacks in our atmospheric period Tea Rooms - before or after your ride on the train. Children's meals - and friendly service - are a speciality. Special diets catered for.

Join our heritage train here for the ride north. Travel in our old-fashioned coaches, including some which are over 100 years old. Each carriage has its own story - they're all different. Which will you choose?. Enjoy the display of restored wagons.

Savour Pen-y-Mount station with its replica 1923 WHR building and station as the train stops briefly on your journey north. This wonderful place was re-created exactly as it had been in the '20s. If you want, you can leave the train here and explore the network of footpaths running through the surrounding countryside.

Look out through the window during your short journey for superb views of the mountains of Snowdonia and the old sea cliffs. The train pauses at Traeth Mawr, a delightful spot in the wide open countryside, where the engine runs round to the other end ready for the return journey.

On the return journey, the train also stops at Gelert's Farm Halt where you can get off the train at this classic small WHR halt - for a free, guided tour of our restoration shed and displays. Come inside to climb on our other engines, and see for yourself how they work.
